• Sewing a fabric book cover is a splendid way to personalise and protect your favourite books. To begin, gather your materials: a piece of fabric (preferably cotton or canvas for durability), interlining for added sturdiness, scissors, pins, a sewing machine, and thread that complements your fabric.

Start by measuring your book. Add a few centimetres for seam allowances and cut your fabric accordingly; you’ll need two rectangles for the front and back covers, and two additional strips for the spine.

Next, if you're using interlining, cut it to the same size as your fabric pieces and attach it using a fabric adhesive or by sewing it in place. Once prepared, pin the front and back pieces right sides together, leaving an opening along one side for turning out later.

Using a sewing machine, stitch around the edges, ensuring you backstitch at the beginning and end for extra security. Carefully turn the cover right side out through the opening and press it flat with an iron to remove any creases.

Finally, tuck in the raw edges of the opening and stitch it shut, either by hand or with a machine. Your fabric book cover is now ready to adorn your treasured reads, combining style with protection. Happy sewing!
